The Power Project

powerthmb

Shot across 5 continents in 10 different countries, with stunning visuals, personal human stories and insights from leading energy executives, government ministers, and entrepreneurs, POWER tackles the ambitious questions and complex geopolitics surrounding the energy industry today. Everything we do is dependent on power. Our relationship with every country is defined in terms of our energy needs and most wars and conflicts have this at their source. By definition, our energy sources in the long run must be sustainable or we will face the inevitable possibility that it is in fact the human race itself that is not sustainable. We, the consumers and voters, have the power to change the energy system and in doing so change the world. Tomorrow's energy system can be affordable, apolitical, clean and renewable.

This story is brought to life by two award-winning directors, a score by a Golden Globe winning composer, and an original song by Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo. POWER endeavors to answer the most crucial questions concerning us all. What is the future of energy? What are the stakes if we fail to make changes? Where are the solutions?

Journeys in Film

rossier

Most of the critical issues that the United States faces today are international in their scope and complexity. Our abilities as a nation to meet these challenges will be strengthened by a greater understanding of our global interdependence.

Aligned with various prominent national initiatives, Journeys in Film believes that helping America's youth develop this kind of worldview and understanding should be a primary 21st century educational goal. Our educational program has proven to be effective in connecting cultures, broadening world-views, teaching for global competency and building a new paradigm for best practices in education. Journeys in Film and USC's Rossier School of Education are committed to seeking new alliances and fostering partnerships that address further advancement of global education programs, as well as those promoting the power of film as a tool for teaching.

Playing for Change

peace

Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music. The idea for this project came from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people.

Playing For Change was born in 2002 as a shared vision between co-founders, Mark Johnson and Whitney Kroenke, to hit the streets of America with a mobile recording studio and cameras in search of inspiration and the heartbeat of the people. This musical journey resulted in the award-winning documentary, "A Cinematic Discovery of Street Musicians."Ever since that day the Playing For Change crew has traveled the world recording and filming musicians, creating Songs Around the World, and building a global family.

Creating Songs Around the World inspired us to unite many of the greatest musicians we met throughout our journey in the creation of the Playing For Change Band. These musicians come from many different countries and cultures, but through music they speak the same language. The PFC Band is now touring the world and spreading the message of love and hope to audiences everywhere.

No matter who you are or where you come from, we are all united through music.

International Cinema Education

intlcineeduc

International Cinema Education, Inc. (I.C.E.) began in 2003 at the United Nations as a "Global Classroom" where New York City public high school students were invited each month to a free tour of the United Nations and screening of a foreign film. More than 50 films were shown to 10,000 New York City students from over 100 public high schools. With the help of Ambassadors, U.N. tour guides, actors, directors and producers, these students were transposed to worlds beyond their imagination and learned about countries they never knew existed before.

As of September 2008, I.C.E. has taken this global program directly into New York City public high schools and across the United States to public high schools in Oklahoma. We collaborate with liaison teachers who interweave our program into their traditional Social Studies, Global History, English and Film classes, as well as teach the program in newly created elective classes based on this program.

Global Arts Corps

globalartsglobalarts2

Global Arts Corps works with artists who either once looked down the barrel of a gun at each other or, as children of conflict, still deal with memories not yet healed.

As actors we are able to tell stories, and help others to communicate their own stories – stories that are usually too difficult to be told or which most people are too afraid to talk about. Acting enables us to present a mirror of ourselves that helps us to see situations from a different point of view, to provoke us into rethinking our own beliefs, shared myths and perceptions of others. Acting creates a "safe space" in which we can say and do things that are of the moment, it allows both perpetrator and victim to step into each other's shoes without judgment. It allows us to "rehearse" forgiveness, to "rehearse" reconciliation. In the safe confines of the theatre, we are able to communicate that which is "unspoken", and we are able to see deeper and multiple truths.

At Global Arts Corps, we create theatre ensembles out of actors who fundamentally disagree with each other; individuals who are suspicious of each other; and who see each other as "us" and "them".

Today, TWB is an international grass-roots community comprised of a wide-spectrum of individual volunteers around the world who meet irregularly and communicate primarily through the Internet and our website. We value "Conversation", "Hospitality", and "Information Sharing". We welcome artists at all levels of practice: professionals, academics, amateurs, artists working in countries where there is no such thing as a professional theatre community, and students.

Teachers Without Borders

twithoutb

Teachers Without Borders connects teachers to information and each other to create local change on a global scale.

At over 59 million, teachers are the largest group of trained professionals in the world. As transmitters of knowledge and community leaders, teachers are powerful catalysts for lasting global change. However, teacher professional development is often irrelevant, inconsequential, or missing entirely. Teachers must therefore have a support network to provide the resources, training, tools and colleagues they need to fulfill their important role. Teachers Without Borders offers that support. Please take a look at Teachers Without Borders' interactive history time-line.

OUR VISION: A world with well-trained, well-informed teachers is a world with smarter, healthier, wealthier, more peaceful individuals and societies. Support for a single teacher can foster the well being of hundreds, even thousands, of learners and their communities.

Austin Film Festival

austin

Austin Film Festival furthers the art and craft of filmmaking by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers and all artists who use the language of film to tell a story. Founded in 1993, Austin Film Festival (AFF) was the first organization of its kind to focus on the writers' creative contribution to film. AFF originally consisted of the Heart of Film Screenwriters Conference, a forum for craft development, inspiration, networking and launching careers created for screenwriters - the film industry's historically under-represented, as evidenced by the recent writers' strike. It has since grown to serve all filmmakers and Austin's arts community and now encompasses a wealth of year-round programming dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the art and impact of storytelling.
